So 4 months ago I agreed to help someone film something in another state. They told me that I just had to pay for the ticket there. Excited to finally be filming something more “professional” than my sketches on youtube, I agreed. Throughout the months, I discover that everyone has to pay extra to get into the location. I thought that they had that covered, but apparently they only have rooms for us. 

Now, 2 months ago I got a gig as a production assistant. I saw how everything worked. I enjoyed it. I was happy. 1 week later, I got a gig as a 2nd assistant camera. It was even more fun and I learned so much from the crew. 1 week after that, I got a gig as a production assistant/set photographer/DIT. We were fed well, treated well and we felt like a family.

On the other hand, this group has me feeling the exact opposite. I feel replaceable and not respected. Like the only people who matter is in front of the camera and not who’s behind it. Here, I pay for everything on my own. They don’t notice that without the crew, you have nothing. But they can always just hire another one right? 

Unfortunately, I cannot take back the ticket. I will have to deal with them for a week.
